Production company working on final Daniel Day-Lewis film receives £2.25m funding

A post-production studio in Slough that is headed up by industry veterans Adrian Bull and John Mahtani has sealed £2.25m in growth capital from Foresight Group.

Cinelabs International, which provides post-production services to the film industry and content creators, has attracted the investment after completing work on a string of high profile releases in the last 12 months.

The studio, which offers services including film processing, scanning and distribution as well as digitisation, restoration and archive management, has also been lined up for work on Paul Thomas Anderson’s forthcoming Phantom Thread, which will be three-time Academy Award winner Daniel Day-Lewis’ last-ever film.

The investment in Cinelabs has been made on behalf of Foresight VCT and will support the company’s investment in specialist equipment and staff as it looks to expand its service offering.

Chris Wardle of Foresight Group commented: “We are excited to be working with John, Adrian and the team in further growing this brand that has a loyal following of major studios, independents and agencies.

“The business is known for its service levels and fast turn-around times, so is drawing significant attention in the market.

“The number of critically-acclaimed films that Cinelabs have in their repertoire is testament to the quality of work they produce, and we’re confident that we can add commercial value, enabling them to continue to grow.”

As part of the funding, ex-CEO of Factory Media, Darryl Newton will join Cinelabs as Chairman with a focus on creating value from the studio’s new and archive content.

Both Adrian Bull and John Mahtani were complimentary about Foresight’s pedigree in the media industry and looked forward to working with the investor, which currently has over £2.6bn of assets under management.

Bull said: “We are really excited to have the support of Foresight in accelerating the growth of Cinelabs, and will be looking to expand services in the UK and establish a greater international capability.”
