Local school children visit luxury housing site to learn how a building stays up

School children from Cullingworth Primary School have taken a trip to a local housing development to learn all about the housebuilding process. 90 students, aged between five and seven, visited David Wilson Homes’ Hewenden Ridge development in the village where they were taken on a tour of the site, to learn how a home is built.

The children were shown around the homes currently under construction whilst they were taught about materials used to build, and what makes a house stay up. The tour was led by Site Manager, Andy Firth, and the children also spoke to some of the bricklayers and joiners on the site to find out about their roles in the building process.

Laura Brown, Year 3 teacher at Cullingworth Primary School, said: “We’ve been learning about construction and building materials in our curriculum this term, so the children were really excited to visit Hewenden Ridge so that they could understand all the work that goes into building a home. It was a great visit that may inspire our young students to take up a career in the construction industry one day!”

Curtis Sorren, Sales Adviser at Hewenden Ridge, commented: “It was great to have the children from Cullingworth Primary School visiting our development and learning about the house building process from Andy – we had a lot of fun on the day! A key focus for David Wilson Homes is to nurture the communities in which we build and Cullingworth is a fantastic area, so we’re very happy we’re able to work with local schools in this way.”

Situated in the South Pennines on the fringe of Brontë Country, homes at Hewenden Ridge offer an idyllic and peaceful lifestyle. The development is within easy reach of commuter links across Yorkshire and homes are available to buy from £289,995.
