Peabody hunting for strategic partner to deliver massive Thamesmead scheme

Housing developer Peabody has announced it is hunting for a strategic partner to support the delivery of the Thamesmead Waterfront scheme which forms part of the massive £5bn Thamesmead development.

In total, the scheme will deliver over 20,000 new homes in the largest regeneration programme in London, and will benefit from access to the proposed DLR extension from Gallions Reach in 2026 and Crossrail in 2018.

The Thamesmead Waterfront portion of the plans sits in the north of the vast site and will itself deliver a new community of 11,500 new homes as well as a new town centre and leisure and commercial amenities.

Now, the housing giant has appointed GVA to source a strategic partner for the scheme to help deliver the new community which Peabody have described as being ‘unrivalled in scale’.

Gerry Hughes, Chief Executive at GVA commented: “We are delighted to work with Peabody on this seminal development project. Thamesmead Waterfront is a very rare opportunity.

“The planned new infrastructure will enable housing, commercial and community development, including a new town centre on the scale of a New Town. Moreover, we will see the transformation of over 2km of previously undeveloped waterfront.

“We anticipate considerable interest from across the globe for what is a £5bn GDV opportunity.”

John Lewis, Executive Director for Thamesmead added: “These are really exciting times for London’s new town, Thamesmead.

“The opening of Crossrail in 2018 and the planned DLR extension from Gallions Reach to North Thamesmead in 2026 will enable the comprehensive regeneration of the Town.

“Unrivalled in both scale and space, the Thamesmead Waterfront scheme offers a unique opportunity for Peabody to work with a strategic partner to deliver a new community, benefitting both new and existing residents of Thamesmead for years to come.”
