Tennis fever takes over at First Street Manchester

Thousands of tennis fans have been gripped by the Wimbledon action televised live on the big screen at First Street since the tournament began, and the fun looks set to continue as the excitement mounts ahead of this weekend’s finals.

First Street’s free 20 sq m outdoor sports screen in Tony Wilson Place has broadcast the live BBC coverage of every Championship match since Sunday 27 June to centre court followers who have relished the opportunity to soak up the atmosphere from the comfort of a deck chair.

With copious amounts of ice cream consumed and a wealth of drink and food choices available, First Street will be the place to grab a front row seat to cheer on the finalists as they battle to lift the tournament trophy in the Wimbledon finals this weekend.

Staff at companies that are head quartered at First Street, such as Autotrader and Gazprom, have been taking advantage of the outdoor screening by using their lunch breaks to catch a midday slice of the action.

First Street’s Wimbledon screening is supported by the numerous leisure and retail destinations on the estate, including: INNSIDE Manchester hotel, Pizza Express, Starbucks, The Laundrette, Gasworks, Indian Tiffin Room and The Liquor Store

Alongside the big screen, the finals weekend will feature live entertainment in Tony Wilson Place, with music from Laura Jayne Hunter, who will be performing her Indie Lounge set accompanied by the special guitar skills of John Emsley, and an acoustic guitar set performed by local musician, Becky Langan.

The Wimbledon screenings at First Street are free for all to watch, with groups of families, friends and sports fans alike encouraged to take up a deck chair in front of the big screen.
