App Offers Patients Insight Into IVF
Internationally leading fertility group, Institut Marques, have announced the results from a new study of fertility patients trialling a brand new mobile app which allows them to observe the evolution of their embryos while they are being fertilized in an incubator, in order to relieve anxiety and improve embryo selection.
Assisted reproduction treatments, such as IVF and IUI, naturally cause stress for patients, particularly when they are waiting for their embryos to develop pre-implantation. In response to this global issue, Institut Marquès has created a pioneering new mobile application which can improve the well-being of future parents during the assisted reproduction process.
Embryomobile is a revolutionary new app which allows patients to observe the evolution of their embryos from the comfort of their own home, while they are being fertilised in an Embryoscope (a high-technology incubator with an incorporated video camera that films their development). Institut Marquès have presented the results from a study of patients trialing Embryomobile at the annual European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) conference in Geneva, today.
The study, which interviewed 400 Institut Marquès patients after they used Embryomobile, has found that 91 per cent of the patients who used the app felt that it helped them to feel calmer during the IVF process. According to Institut Marquès, 43 per cent of the patients taking part in the study connected to Embryomobile more than five times a day to see their embryos developing, with a further 27 percent connecting between two and four times a day. The study also found that over half of the patients within the study (51 per cent) used Embryomobile to select the best embryo to implant. Of these patients, just under three quarters (74 per cent) chose the correct embryo to transfer and successfully vitrify. Dr.
Federica Moffa, a leading Gynaecologist at Institut Marquès, says: “The Embryomobile app has gone down very well with our patients, as it allows them to get much more involved in the IVF process and helps them to establish an emotional relationship with their future child. The new app offers patients direct insight into what’s happening in the lab, from the comfort of their own home, and allows for complete transparency.”
