West Yorkshire developer completes work on new residential addition to London's skyline

Caddick Developments, a division of the Wetherby-based construction firm Caddick Group, has completed Vauxhall Gardens in London.

Comprising of 194 private apartments, two penthouses as well as 35 affordable flats and six shared ownership homes, Vauxhall Sky Gardens is located within the Nine Elms regeneration area.

The scheme sits right next to Battersea Power station, which is currently being redeveloped into new housing and offices.

Designed by architects Careyjones Chapmantolcher, Vauxhall Sky Gardens is split over a 36-storey tower and eight-storey block with an inter-connecting one-storey podium. YOO Design provided the interiors.

Vauxhall Sky Gardens was inspired by the ancient Babylonian ‘Hanging Gardens’, and includes over 2,000 sq ms of outdoor space provided and two ‘floating gardens’ that have been designed by landscapers Gillespies.

All of the homes feature their own private internal winter garden as well. The development has a number of sustainable features, including low energy services and renewable energy generation, while all the residential units meet the Sustainable Homes Code Level 3 requirements.

In addition to new housing, Vauxhall Sky Gardens also includes seven floors of commercial office space, totalling over 4,000 sq ms.

The success of the Sky Gardens concept encouraged Caddick Developments to push ahead with Moda Living, a build-to-rent joint venture with Generate Land, another Yorkshire-based developer.

Johnny Caddick, chief executive of Caddick Developments, said: “Having a proven track record of successfully delivery in the regions, we’re delighted to be announcing the completion of our first residential tower in London.

“Vauxhall Sky Gardens will bring a completely new type of living to the capital, and be an exciting addition to the London skyline.”

Simon Lear, chief executive at Frasers Property UK, added: “Sky Gardens in Vauxhall is one of the first sites to be developed in the Nine Elms regeneration area.

“There is a real energy in this part of town and the team is delighted that Mace have now completed the tower. All the private sale apartments are already forward sold & the project has been a major success.

“The Tower now complete, provides residents with two sky gardens overlooking Westminster and Chelsea, a 24-hour concierge service and a state of the art communal gym overlooking the communal gardens.”

Alex Fish, Mace project director at Vauxhall Sky Gardens, commented: “We are proud to announce that Mace has completed the development and residents and businesses can now move in and enjoy this fantastic development.”
