Camerons Brewery to bring Head of Steam back to Liverpool

North East brewing company Camerons Brewery has revealed plans to bring the Head of Steam brand back to Liverpool this autumn.

The venue, which will be the firm’s 11th Head of Steam, will occupy the Hanover Street site currently trading as The Abbey.

Providing guests with a choice of 34 keg lines and 10 cask ale lines served from an island bar, the pub will also offer a brunch menu and a lineup of British culinary ‘classics’.

Camerons took over The Head of Steam group in 2013 has since continued to grow the brand’s estate. Last year, the brewer opened venues in Headingley, Hull, Newcastle and Sheffield.

The company plans to open around six Head of Steam sites per year.

The new venue in Liverpool will be “a very different proposition” to the Head of Steam pub that previously traded in the city, explained Camerons Brewery chief exec Chris Soley.

He said: “As part of the expansion plans in place to increase our retail pub division we have been looking at a number of potentially opportunities across the UK for our The Head of Steam brand.

“We have specifically been looking at venues in the North West and Liverpool was a city we were really keen to open a site in. Liverpool is a large vibrant city and we feel our mix of craft beer and live music will be a perfect fit to complement the already fantastic pub and bar offerings in the area.”

Chris added: “We will be putting some significant investment into the development of the site and creating new jobs for the area as part of this acquisition.”

Work on the Hanover Street site will begin in August for an opening at the end of September.

Tom Hodgson of retail and leisure property consultancy Pudney Shuttleworth acted for Camerons Brewery on the acquisition.
