intu Metrocentre retailers compete for top awards

Some of the retail sector’s most respected brands are going head to head to compete for a host of accolades at intu Metrocentre’s annual Retailer Awards.

The prestigious ceremony at Wylam Brewery, Exhibition Park will see retailers from over 300 stores competing for twelve awards for retailer excellence, including best specialist retailer, large, small, independent, health and beauty, jewellery and footwear and accessories retailer of the year.

With top new additions to intu Metrocentre’s fashion offerings including the stylish BOSS store in Red mall, the stand-alone Coast boutique and the chic FLANNELS store in Platinum mall, competition for Newcomer of the Year as well as best menswear and ladieswear retailer of the year is sure to be fierce.

The responsibility of judging the entrants is in the hands of the general public and voting is now open for people to nominate their favourite retailer as well as highlight excellence in customer service - there’s even a £250 Gift Card card up for grabs for one lucky voter, just for taking part.

Another hotly contended award is the title of Best Leisure/Catering Operator – with exciting new restaurants including the concept dessert boutique Movenpick and MOD Pizza vying for the top spot with established favourites such as Thaikhun, Carluccio’s, Byron and Coast to Coast.

After winning the award for Specialist Store of the Year at last’s year’s award ceremony, Apple is hoping to take pole position again whilst David Summerfield will be defending its title of Jewellery Store of the Year against stiff competition from retailers such as Swarovski, Beaverbrooks and independent retailers – Mulroy Antiques and Grosvenor Jewellers.

Helen Atkinson, marketing manager at intu Metrocentre, said: “The Retailer Awards are always a highlight of our calendar – not only is it a chance for retail staff to get together outside work but the event recognises and celebrates the fantastic work and high levels of customer service that staff deliver throughout the year. We wish all of the nominees the very best of luck and hope that they have a wonderful night!”

Visit the intu Metrocentre website to vote. Votes can be cast until 16 August.
