Broadway Braves Four Peak Challenge For Charity

The Broadway Shopping Centre in Bradford is taking steps to meet its £10,000 fundraising target for Bradford Hospitals Children’s Charity, as employees prepare to do the Four Peaks Challenge in September.

#TeamBroadway announced their plans to take part in the 20 mile challenge as part of their bid to raise more than £10,000 for the local charity in 2017, after raising more than £5,600 throughout the year, some of which was raised by holding a cycling event in April.

The notorious Four Peaks Challenge involves a 10 hour hike which follows much of the Cleveland Way and part of the Lyke Wake Walk, and includes 4256m of ascent throughout the route.

The Broadway employees taking part will be raising money until the event in September, with funds collected going towards providing the children’s wards in Bradford Hospital with those special extras that can make a child’s stay much more comfortable.

The money raised will be added to the £2,600 already donated to the charity from the #TeamBroadway charity bike ride earlier this year in April, in which staff and shoppers hopped on to exercise bikes in the shopping centre and cycled more than 600 miles across one weekend. The centre has raised £5,600 so far in 2017 through various activities.

In preparation for the hike, on Thursday 20th July general manager of The Broadway, Ian Ward, took a tour of the recently opened children’s ward where he met with the children who are benefitting from the Broadway’s fundraising efforts.

He says: ‘When we announced our pledge to raise £10,000 for Bradford Hospitals Children’s Charity, I knew that the entire team at the Broadway would rally behind us. It was incredibly inspiring to be able to see, first-hand, what all the money raised is going towards. The work carried out by Bradford Hospitals Children’s Charity is awe-inspiring, and it’s great to see what a difference they’re making to the lives of those who are most vulnerable in our community.

“I knew when we announced our pledge to raise £10,000 for the charity, the both Broadway employees and shoppers alike would rally behind this great cause. They’ve already shown their commitment in the donations made during our last #TeamBroadway event, and I hope we can raise even more money for this incredible charity by taking part in the Four Peaks Challenge in September.”

Hayley Collis, head of fundraising for Bradford Hospitals Children’s Charity, says: “We are absolutely delighted with the continued support from The Broadway Shopping Centre, our corporate charity partner. They are doing some amazing things to help reach their goal of £10,000.

“Their latest fundraising event, a 4 peak long distance sponsored walk, will be a challenge for the staff taking part, but hopefully an enjoyable experience too. We thoroughly enjoy working closely with the team in helping to maximise their fundraising and inspiring them to come up with new and innovative ideas too.

“Their fundraising has already helped make some incredible differences to the daily lives of our young patients by helping to buy a range of toys and games, parent beds and items for the adolescent room on the new Children and Young Person’s Unit within the new hospital wing.”
