Tottenham Hotspur Stadium update: Steel work begins on biggest single-tier stand in Europe

New images released by Tottenham Hotspur show work well underway for the club’s massive new South Stand with the stand’s steel framework now under construction.

Construction work on the fourth and final stand at Spurs’ new 61,000 seater stadium had to wait until the club had vacated their former home, White Hart Lane, due to the sites overlapping.

Following Tottenham’s final game at their historic ground, which saw them beat Manchester United 2-1, construction firm Populous began clearing the site and digging the foundations for the vast new South Stand.

Encompassing 17,000 seats in a single-tier Kop-style stand, once complete it will be the biggest all-seater single tier stand in Europe and has been designed to support standing areas in future if legislation on the matter changes.

Elsewhere, the grounds three other stands are rapidly ascending out of the ground with the North Stand already reaching its third tier and the outer shell of the £750m stand already visible.

It comes after Spurs announced they would be partnering with HPE to create one of the world’s most technologically advanced stadiums, with the potential for in-stadium navigation and robust WiFi connections just some of the potential tech features Spurs fans could benefit from when the ground opens in time for the 2018/19 season.
