Wetherby care equipment manufacturer secures £850k contract at Midland Met Hospital

Wetherby’s Innova Care Concepts has secured a £850k contract to supply hoisting systems to the new Midland Met Hospital in Birmingham.

The deal, which is thought to be the second largest hoisting contract ever made in the UK, will see Innova provide a total of 277 hoist units across 313 rooms. This includes coverage over 44 multibed bays and 36 bariatric rooms.

Bob Oliver, hoisting specialist at Innova, said:“The Midland Met Hospital project is an outstanding achievement for Innova as it highlights to the global healthcare industry that our innovative solutions are key to solving the challenges that this sector has faced for years.

“The client wanted hoists that could be used for standard in and out of bed transfers, but also for physiotherapy and other activities that traditional hoisting systems don’t always cater to.

“With 669 acute care beds, Midland Met needed numerous hoisting systems that could facilitate safe lifts for every patient, and we have developed exclusive equipment that can do just that.”

Emma Loosely, senior commissioning manager at Midland Metropolitan Hospital, added: “Innova’s innovative design solution was able to meet the challenge of coordinating the ceiling track with the curtains around the bed space whilst maintaining patient privacy and dignity.

“By sharing motor units between bed spaces, the Trust is minimising the impact for patients within that space, it also means fewer motor units to maintain and test annually.”
