Hambro Perks has hired a former top Google exec to head up its media division
London-based company builder, Hambro Perks, has appointed a former Director of the UK, Ireland Benelux at Google to head up its new media division.
Kate Burns, who was Google’s first international hire back in 2001, becomes Chief Executive Officer of the investment and consultancy firm’s media division where she will oversee companies such as SeenIt, Takumi and Blend Media.
Burns has held senior positions at a string of big-name tech and internet companies, including Alta Vista, DoubleClick, AOL, Bebo and, most recently, as European GM at BuzzFeed.
In her new role she will work alongside Hambro Perks co-founders Dom Perks and Rupert Hambro, shepherding portfolio companies operating within the media sector from their nascent stages to their full launches and, potentially, exits.
Founded in 2013, the company builder has worked with the likes of Laundrapp, addressing firm what3words and gin brand Sipsmiths to develop their products and grow their businesses. It currently boasts a portfolio of over 30 companies spread across various sectors and verticals.
Following Burns’ appointment, Perks said: “With a proven track record of success within the media and advertising industry, Kate’s insights and learning are unrivalled.
“I strongly believe that Kate is the perfect person to grow the new arm of the business, and continue building some of the UK’s most exciting start-ups.’
Burns added: “London is a powerhouse of media and advertising talent. I look forward to working alongside the leadership team at Hambro Perks to tap into this pool, and grow global, pioneering start-ups within the media division. “
