Sheffield Charity Champion Gets Pretty Muddy for Cancer Research

A Sheffield woman has raised almost £1,000 for Cancer Research UK by taking part in its annual ‘Pretty Muddy’ obstacle course event recently.

Mum of two, Dionne Redpath tackled the 5KM course alongside 2,000 other participants for the first time recently, to raise the impressive total of £500, which was match-funded as part of a charity initiative set out by her work, where she is a Branch Network and Sales Director.

Dionne is just one of the team from logistics business Europa Worldwide Group, which has a site in Wakefield, to sign up to its 50th anniversary business-wide charity drive. The “50:50” initiative invites staff to fundraise for charity through a range of events and sponsored activities – and then the business will match the money they raise up to the tune of £500 per employee.

Dionne said: “Cancer Research is a cause that is very close to my heart, so I wanted to challenge myself to raise as much as possible to support the incredible work they do. “The event itself was brilliant fun! It was great to see women of all ages get together in our area and take on a challenge for such a worthwhile cause. I’m really proud of the total I’ve raised and with Europa’s generous match-funding, I’ve been able to donate quite a significant amount.”

Carl Potter, HR and Facilities Director at Europa said: “Dionne has raised an incredible amount for a cause that has great significance to her and her family and should be really proud of completing the muddy challenge.”

He continued: “We’re delighted to see our 50:50 initiative take off in the way it has over the past few months. Our employees from across the country have embraced the spirit of fundraising and we have already raised over £2,000 for a wide variety of causes, with people still signing up every week.”

Along with Dionne’s achievements for Cancer Research, Europa employees from across Yorkshire and the rest of the UK have signed up to take part in events such as cake sales, sponsored swims, marathons, walks and even balloon races in aid of their chosen charities.
