68 jobs to be lost as Genius Foods set to close Hull factory
Genius Foods, the gluten-free bakery business, has announced plans to close its operation in Hull, causing the loss of 68 jobs.
The business’ Main Street factory is being forced to shut down due to some of its European customers choosing to offer an own-label product instead.
This change has resulted in the Hull factory significantly decreasing production volumes, therefore forcing the company to cease all operations at the site.
This follows on from April’s announcement in which Genius Food said it was cutting 115 job across its entire business, with 70 axed in Hull.
Jeremy Bradley, chief executive of Genius, said: “We fully understand the shock and disappointment of this announcement for all of our employees.
“It has been necessary to respond to the change in activity at Hull and the priority of the entire Genius team is to do everything possible in the coming weeks and months to support the hard working and dedicated employees at the site.
“We have put in place a comprehensive package of practical support and advice to help secure alternative employment opportunities as quickly as possible.”
Production will now exclusively take place in Bathgate, West Lothian, where Genius Foods is creating an additional 27 new jobs.
