Teesside University launches new AdEDA scheme to help employers recruit talented apprentices

Teesside University is working closely with employers to assist with recruitment and the development of existing staff through degree apprenticeships, which combine work with studying for a work-based higher education qualification.

The outcome is a range of degree apprenticeship programmes with flexible study solutions that can meet the needs of the individual employee and of their employer, and can help companies to attract talented new apprentices from across the UK.

With many degree apprenticeship programmes already on offer, and more being added as new national standards become available, companies are being urged to consider workforce planning, training and retention strategies to take advantage of the apprenticeship levy and government supported degree apprenticeship training programmes. Since April, all businesses with a wage bill of more than £3 million are required to invest in apprenticeships by paying into the levy – but businesses of all sizes can access funds from the levy to train and develop their employees through degree apprenticeships.

To make things even easier for employers to access the pool of talent, the University’s School of Science, Engineering & Design has launched an exciting new initiative which supports employers in identifying and recruiting talented apprentices from across the UK.

The Advanced Entry Degree Apprenticeship (AdEDA) scheme offers employer members a range of benefits, including University support in promoting degree apprenticeship vacancies to college leavers in the North East and beyond.

It also provides access to Teesside University’s current students who are interested in joining a degree apprenticeship, and UK-wide promotion of members’ organisations to tens of thousands of potential STEM degree apprentices who apply for University places through the UCAS system each year.

By joining the AdEDA scheme, employers have the opportunity to select apprentices from the University’s current cohorts of students with proven university-level academic ability, reduce the duration of the degree apprenticeship programme and reduce the cost by up to 50%.

In addition to recruiting and training new young apprentices, degree apprenticeships also provide a cost-effective approach to upskilling your employees and help retain talent in the Tees Valley. Here at Teesside University we want to help you make the most of this opportunity.
