Marco Pierre White to open seafood restaurant on Liverpool’s waterfront
Chef and TV personality Marco Pierre White is bringing Wheeler’s of St. James’s, one of the world’s oldest fish brands, to Merseyside with a new restaurant at Pullman Liverpool.
The 120-cover venue, opening its doors later this year at the waterfront hotel, will be the second of the Wheeler’s name to open in the UK.
Keeping the 161-year-old brand’s original recipes at the heart of the seafood menu but adding his own touch, Marco confirmed that the restaurant’s signature oysters will be available alongside dishes such as lobster macaroni with black truffle and mango and coriander fish curry.
The menu will also feature a selection of meat and vegetarian dishes.
Marco said: “The Wheeler’s brand carries with it certain standards, and certain connotations. It’s about the highest quality of oysters, the freshest seafood and a memorable experience. This is exactly what I want to bring to Liverpool.
“I can see from the success of my Liverpool Steakhouse Bar & Grill that the people of this city have an appetite and a desire for high quality restaurants, and with the amazing location paired with a menu which I take great pride in, locals and tourists alike will find this to their taste.”
The opening represents a partnership between Pullman Liverpool, which launched in 2016, and Marco’s restaurant franchise business Black and White Hospitality.
Black and White Hospitality CEO Nick Taplin said: “Wheeler’s is a very special brand for us. Before we decide on a location, we must be sure it is in keeping with the ethos of this historic name.
“Pullman has a global reputation for being situated in vibrant parts of town and Pullman Liverpool is in keeping with this.”
He continued: “With Wheeler’s overlooking Liverpool’s waterfront and only a short stroll from the historic Albert Dock, we feel we have found the perfect match for our second restaurant.
“It was a very big decision to open our second Wheeler’s outside of London. I look forward to working with Marco and the team on this exciting project in such an amazing city.”
Pullman Liverpool general manager Neil Brailsford said: “We are thrilled that Marco Pierre White, a world-renowned chef, has chosen to bring his first Wheeler’s restaurant outside of London to Pullman Liverpool.
“Our hotels are designed to reflect the vibrant local culture and character of the neighbourhood and Wheeler’s, offering the highest-quality seafood on this historic waterfront, is the perfect choice for us.”
He added: “We look forward to working with Marco and the team.”
Wheeler’s will launch this November.
