Diversity Travel provides helping hand to Wrongolians' charity expedition

Specialist travel management firm Diversity Travel is sponsoring a wacky racers-style team as they travel from London to Mongolia (and back again) in a Renault Clio to raise money for two UK charities.

The ‘Wrongolians’ – Dom Bowcock, Tom Finnie, Benji Singh and Ope Paul-Lawal – are competing against around 200 other teams in the Mongol Rally 2017, as they each take their own improvised routes to the capital city of Ulan-Ude in Russia.

To date, Diversity Travel’s sponsorship has helped the team raise over £3,400 for Cool Earth and the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance against their initial target of £1,000. The Rally’s official rules determine that contestants must compete with no backup, support and set route, and must drive ‘a farcically small vehicle’.

The Wrongolians will donate half of their funds to Cool Earth, an organisation that looks to protect indigenous people living in areas of threatened rainforest. Cool Earth works at the frontlines of deforestation, working tirelessly to put indigenous people back in control of their native homelands. Cool Earth currently has active projects in the Amazon rainforest, Africa’s Congo basin and Orangerie Bay in Papua New Guinea.

The other half raised will go towards the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance. The Trust is a registered charity that operates 24 hours a day to provide specialised air ambulance services for the people of Kent. The charity relies almost entirely on donations and fundraising, and without this support, they could not continue their life-saving work.

“It’s been a pleasure to sponsor the team on their epic journey, and we’ve enjoyed a host of entertaining moments as we’ve followed their progress over the last few weeks,” said Stuart Coleman, Head of Marketing & Communications at Diversity Travel. “As travel management experts with a commitment to supporting international causes, it was an easy decision to sponsor the team and we have been honoured to see them flying the Diversity Travel flag so proudly on the road to Mongolia.”
