Liverpool law firm creates six jobs with £178k investment
Berkson Family Law Solicitors has set its sights on growth after securing a six-figure investment.
Valerie Limont, a long-standing partner at the Liverpool law firm, retired to take up the role of consultant, paving the way for remaining directors Charles Peter and Adele Schofield to acquire her slice of the business.
Charles and Adele funded the buy-out with a £178k package arranged by West Kirby-based Bathgate Business Finance.
The sum, comprising a £145k loan through lending platform RateSetter and a personal loan of £33k through Braemar Finance, enabled Berkson to create six jobs.
Charles Peter said the new hires, strengthening the firm’s existing nine-strong team, will bolster Berkson’s standing in the family law arena, adding to growth that has already seen the company’s turnover increase year on year by 61%.
He said: “I expect turnover to increase even more, further down the line.
“Almost doubling in size is a good start, and if the brand continues to generate, as it has done, we will have to find more people.”
He added: “We are trying to attract more private work, and we now have the team that can work exclusively with high net worth divorces. We could not do that before, but now we have that expertise.”
In arranging the funding package, Bathgate Business Finance liaised with Mike Buxton of accountants Mitchell Charlesworth.
Paul Trickett, business development manager at Bathgate, commented: “We were delighted to assist with some alternative funding to this progressive law practice.”
