New Convenience Store and Cafe Officially Opens in Congleton

MP Fiona Bruce officially opened the new Londis store and Hüüb Cafe in Lower Heath, Congleton, on Friday 25 August.

Collectively known as the Hüüb Store, the new concept takes over the former Grove Inn pub on Manchester Road and has created 20 new jobs for the area.

The site has been completely redeveloped over the past year to make way for the Londis which will be the retailer’s flagship store for the North West.

On the first floor is the Hüüb Cafe – a premium coffee shop serving a range of hot drinks, smoothies, paninis, cakes and afternoon teas. The spacious area can hold up to 60 covers and in the coming months, will look to extend its opening hours and also serve breakfasts and alcohol.

The grand opening saw MP Fiona Bruce officiating proceedings by cutting the ribbon and welcoming customers into the contemporary new surroundings. A face painter and a local DJ provided entertainment on the day, with delicious food tasters and goody bags given to attendees.

The Hüüb Store is owned by property development company, Yu Group which has a portfolio of properties and land in Manchester, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, Liverpool and Nottingham.

Managing Director of the Yu Group, Jonathan Yu said: “We are delighted to officially open Congleton’s new Hüüb Store which boasts a vast range of everyday essential items, as well as local produce from well-known names such as Chatwins, PC Produce, Pace’s Farm Eggs, The Pie Life and selected Slater’s Handcrafted Ales.

“The Hüüb Cafe is a new idea which we have successfully trialled in Liverpool at one of the group’s residential properties. A high volume of traffic passes the Manchester Road site each day and we recognised there was an opportunity to offer customers more than just a cold sandwich and a drink which they then have to consume in the car or on foot. This fantastic space allows people to rest and refuel before resuming their onward journey, as well as giving residents the chance to enjoy a change of scenery.”

Store Manager, Carina Hollander-Hancock added: “The Lower Heath area of Congleton has been lacking a local shop and with hundreds of new houses planned, we can serve the growing community with a great selection of produce. We look forward to welcoming customers into the store.”

Chris Page, Londis Regional Development Manager, said: “The new Londis in Congleton is ideally located and with free parking, it is very accessible. The flagship store is very impressive, both inside and out, and will certainly meet customer demand thanks to its large range of chilled food, refrigerated off-licence and regular promotions.”

The Londis store is open from 7am-9pm, 7 days a week, and the Hüüb Cafe is open from 9am – 4pm, 7 days a week.
