‘Landmark’ transformation at Liverpool’s King’s Dock to create 1500 jobs

The first phase of a project to redevelop Liverpool’s King’s Dock waterfront is set to create around 1,500 new jobs.

Wirral-based telecoms firm The Contact Company is working with Liverpool City Council and developer YPG to build an office complex on council-owned land at Monarch’s Quay.

The four-storey site, comprising 45,000 sq ft of office space, would operate alongside the company’s existing Wirral business and house around 1,500 new employees.

A planning application for The Contact Company facility was submitted yesterday (August 31). If approved, it will represent phase one of a wider mixed-use development delivering a new leisure, commercial and retail destination at King’s Dock.

Later phases could include a 2,000-seat ice rink, hotel, homes, shops, restaurants, bars and a car park, as well as a ten-pin bowling and virtual reality leisure centre.

Liverpool City Council believes the opening of The Contact Company’s new base represents the biggest single jobs boost for the City Region since Liverpool ONE launched in 2008.

Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson said: “This is brilliant news for Liverpool and could ultimately lead to the creation of a new riverside destination, boosting our visitor economy and creating jobs for local people.”

Asif Hamid MBE, chief exec of The Contact Company, commented: “Our new office will be a high quality, landmark building and will mean a huge range of opportunities for employment and training.

“We remain committed to our Wirral operation but this development will enable us to significantly expand our business and compete for global customer care contracts.”

YPG project leader Chris Bliss said: “Our focus is on delivering the highest quality design, build and fit-out for what is a unique riverside location.

“We are delighted to be working in partnership with the city council and The Contact Company to help bring forward such a significant development for the city.”

Liverpool City Region Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram commented: “The Contact Company is one of the city region’s more recent success stories. I’m delighted that it has chosen to invest in our area again with this exciting project, which recognises that ambitious growth plans such as those proposed can be successfully realised here.”

The Contact Company expects its new office, which is designed by North West architects Falconer Chester Hall, to launch by the end of 2018 if approved.

Property consultancy Knight Frank submitted the planning application.
