Telford centre to mark frog clock 21st birthday
Shoppers in Telford have been invited to celebrate the 21st birthday of the centre’s most recognised and loved icons, the Telford Time Machine, this Bank Holiday weekend. Designed and created by the famous, Kit Williams, ‘The Frog Clock’ arrived at the Telford Centre in 1996, where it has since been a must-see for little ones, attracting thousands of visitors to the centre each week.
To celebrate the milestone, the Telford Centre has teamed with Costa Coffee who will be offering complimentary frog biscuits and crowns to visitors over the Bank Holiday Weekend.
Katie Broome, marketing manager, said: “We are delighted to be celebrating the Frog Clock’s 21st birthday here at the Centre.
“It has become a wonderful attraction for shoppers and visitors to Telford, bringing a smile to thousands of people every single week.
“The clock remains one of the most loved parts of the centre, and it means a lot to local people.”
The ‘Frog Clock’ is believed to be one of Britain’s biggest animated feature clocks. It weighs more than four tonnes, measures 16 metres long, and took one year to build.
Every half an hour, the centre is filled with a magical display of time. A fan of golden oak leaves rise up, and the frog comes to life with a cascade of bubbles and an enchanting melody.
Centre bosses estimate that the ‘Frog Clock’ has chimed over 120,000 times since starting for the first time 21 years ago.
Katie added: “Shoppers can visit the clock on the half hour to see the frog come to life and enjoy a magical display of time as well as experience the moving mechanisms that make the clock so special.”
Costa Coffee is located on New Row and Sherwood Street. Frog biscuits and crowns are limited to one per customer and subject to availability.
Guests are invited to pose with the Frog Clock and upload their selfies to Facebook for the chance to win a Telford Centre gift card.
