Cash injection takes Ezzy one step closer to walking

A leading housebuilder has donated money to a Bristol based charity, which provides funding to help sick and disabled children.

Persimmon Homes Severn Valley is supporting the Darren Wright Foundation as successful applicants of the firm’s Community Champions initiative, which provides money to carefully selected charitable causes.

The donation of £1,000 will go towards an appeal by the charity for a young girl called Esme Hodge, otherwise known as Ezzy who suffers from Cerebral Palsy, a debilitating condition.

‘Ezzy’s Wish To Walk’ was launched by the foundation to raise money for three year-old Ezzy to have SDR surgery in the USA which will allow her to walk for the first time.

The charity is looking to raise £80,000 but thanks to skydives, sponsored walks, fun days and more, the total collected so far amounts to over £70,000.

Angela Hodge, Ezzy’s mother and fundraiser for the Darren Wright Foundation, said: “We would like to thank everybody who has been so kind to donate. The money from Persimmon Homes is such a valuable contribution to the cause.

“We are desperate for the final few thousand pounds because Ezzy’s surgery is 19th September so we are doing all we can to raise the remainder of the funds to allow her to take her first step.”

Carly Spear, head of sales at Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, said: “Ezzy’s story touched the hearts of myself and my colleagues.

“We are over the moon that we can provide Ezzy with a donation which takes her one step closer to being able to walk for the first time and we are excited to see her progress.”
