McCain Foods starts work on £100m expansion project in Scarborough

Construction work has now begun on the £100m expansion of McCain Foods’ Scarborough production facility

McCain Foods marked this milestone with a ground breaking ceremony at the Eastfield site.

Councillor Derek Bastiman, leader of the council and Jim Dillon, chief executive of Scarborough Borough Council, joined senior leaders of McCain GB and the McCain project team all attended the ceremony.

Established in Eastfield almost 50 years ago, the McCain Foods Scarborough facility is one of the Company’s most successful sites.

The frozen food production company is set use the multi-million pound investment to expand the facility and safeguard jobs.

As well as equipment upgrades, the renewal plans include state-of-the-art odour reduction technology, as well as landscaping around the perimeter of the factory.

With construction now officially underway, increased activity around the John Young Training Centre, off Osgodby Lane, is anticipated to take place over the coming weeks.

Nick Vermont, regional CEO for McCain GB & Ireland, commented: “We are delighted to be officially cutting ground and commencing our renewal plans for the Scarborough site.

“The investment we are making to renew the facility will secure the continued, long-term success of our site here in Eastfield for generations to come, allowing us to meet the increased demand for our products.

“As well as upgrading equipment, we will also be delivering broader environmental benefits, such as installing state-of-the-art odour reduction technology.”

Cllr. Bastiman added: “This event sends a clear message from McCain that it is committed to operations in Scarborough and moving forward with its investment in the facility here.

“We are pleased to see this work getting underway and look forward to seeing the transformation of the site over the coming years.”
