The Worshipful Company of Marketors announces inaugural Financial Services Lecture
Lecture will discuss whether London can sustain its financial services leadership position post Brexit
The Worshipful Company of Marketors, “The Marketors” along with The Financial Services Group (FSG) of Livery Companies today announces that tickets for the inaugural FSG Lecture on the 20th September are now on sale. To be held at Mercers’ Hall in London, distinguished lecturer Alderman Professor Michael Mainelli will discuss the distinct role of financial, professional and business services in the economics of global cities such as London in these times of political uncertainty.
Mainelli will draw from decades of research into the mapping, modelling and economics of cities, along with empirical data, such as the Global Financial Centres Index. “We are woefully unclear on how cities form and grow. Current thinkers are challenging conventional assumptions and developing new theories around scale change, information theory, transactional intensity and competition that are all worth exploring.” he said.
Given the importance of financial services to London and the impending Brexit, the lecture will advance thinking surrounding the current role of financial services, explore some future scenarios, and suggest policies that would be advantageous for the city.
The FSG Lecture will be held in memory of Founding Convenor Jeremy Goford, Past Master Actuary and is open to all members of the FSG Livery Companies and their guests. For further information or to book a place, please click here.
