VizEat acquires USA's EatWith social eating platform
VizEat, Europe’s largest social eating platform, has acquired EatWith, North America’s dominant communal dining player.
Although founded in Paris, VizEat has headquarters in London and is recognised as a world leader in enabling social eating experiences with locals, and is at the front of the sharing economy within the food and travel sectors.
The company has grown from 50 hosts to more than 25,000 in 130 countries, helping travellers and residents discover and share meals and experiences, like cooking classes and walking food tours.
VizEat’s co-founder and CEO, Jean-Michel Petit, said: “Both EatWith and VizEat share the same values: we’re passionate about connecting travellers with local people around the dinner table, allowing travellers to discover [new] culture in their home setting.
“We’re thrilled that this acquisition will enable VizEat to bring greater variety of authentic local experiences to more people across the globe, alongside welcoming additional hosts from all over the world into our community.”
The acquisition should expand VizEat’s global offering and increase the number of food experiences available to its guests on the platform. It will also aim to expand its offering for its global partners within the tourism and travel industries.
Susan Kim, CEO at EatWith, said: “At EatWith, our vision has always been to bring people together, one meal at a time - and our mission to facilitate this has been to build a technology platform that enables talented food entrepreneurs to be able to share their passion and love of food with a global community.”
