Reed Boardall gains outstanding industry accreditation

Yorkshire-based cold storage and transport business, the Reed Boardall Group, has gained the highest possible ‘AA+’ status in an unannounced audit of its state-of-the-art cold storage facilities in Boroughbridge.

The snap inspection was part of the British Retail Consortium (BRC) ongoing enforcement of the global standards of storage and distribution of chilled and frozen foods, which were upgraded in February 2017.

“Our innovative facility, and the many bespoke systems we have meticulously developed over the years are designed to deliver the highest quality and efficiency for our customers, and this AA+ rating is a great testimony that our hard work is recognised by the industry experts,” commented Andrew Baldwin, managing director of Reed Boardall’s cold storage division.

The rating is the highest possible level of accreditation, and was awarded after an unannounced inspection of the firm’s four individual cold stores by the BRC’s inspection partner Kiwa Agri Food.

The British Retail Consortium (BRC) is the leading trade association for UK retailing. Although the BRC food safety standard began in the UK, it is now recognised as a global standard. There are over 17,000 BRC certified sites worldwide, and a large network of BRC certification bodies in around 100 countries.

“We work really hard to be the best we possibly can be in a very competitive sector. The BRC’s standards are globally recognised, and to receive the highest possible rating is an outstanding result for us as a business,” added Mr Baldwin. Reed Boardall is one of the largest temperature-controlled food distribution businesses in the UK, storing and delivering frozen food from manufacturers across Britain, Europe and further afield to all the UK’s best-known supermarkets. The company’s North Yorkshire cold storage facility is one of the largest in Europe.

Operating around the clock, 365 days a year, its 180-strong fleet of vehicles moves an average of 12,000 pallets a day and it stores around £100m worth of products on behalf of its customers. The firm employs over 750 staff from its single site at Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire.
