Veeloop, Randa and Patricia

Two London mums have launched a safe online shopping experience for families

A tech startup, Veeloop, has created a new way for teenagers to shop safely online whilst giving parents peace of mind over their spending habits.

Founded by two London mothers, Randa Bennett and Patricia Salume, the idea of Veeloop came about when Randa’s 14-year-old daughter wanted her mother to complete her online purchases and ‘checkout’.

It was this that brought on her lightbulb moment. Randa commented: “Why can’t she send that basket and I look through it in my own time? I’m going to be even more receptive to her requests after 8pm when the kids are in bed and I have a cuppa in my hand.”

After speaking with other parents and teenagers, the Londoner found this to be the case in many UK households, which is unsurprising given a typical teenager’s easy access to the internet these days.

Veeloop has created a ‘safety net’ for teenagers and parents online. The company also launched its payment approval service with The Hopeful Shop, an online merchandise shop by actress and Youtuber Carrie Hope Fletcher.

Parents have voiced their concerns over online security when teens shop online, which could potentially end in cybercrime. Randa added: “Given the fact that our lives are so digital now, it is essential to educate children and teens on digital financial responsibility and online safety. Veeloop hopes to be one solution for concerned parents.”

Randa and Patricia both hope to become the main online payment method for young people and the stop for parents to approve a teenager’s order or two.

With an initial service working as an approval system by sending the teenager’s shopping basket to the parent for vetting, the company also plans to add digital money management tools, like virtual money allowances to get parents to introduce their children to the values of money.
