North West food company Ten Acre signs £200k deal with Canadian wholesaler

North West food producer Ten Acre is due to start sending its snack products to Canada after landing a six-figure contract with a Canadian wholesaler.

The Manchester-based company signed the deal as the Prime Minister Theresa May met businesses and investors on a trip earlier this week to strengthen Britain’s post-Brexit trade ties with the country.

Ten Acre, which produces hand-cooked crisps and popcorn, said the agreement with Canadian Choice Wholesalers will be worth around £200k a year, with the first shipment to be sent this month.

Ten Acre is owned by Cornbrook-based Yumsh Snacks Ltd.

The company started exporting two years ago. Today, its products are available across Europe, North America, the Middle East and Asia.

Yumsh CEO Tony Goodman said: “We’re delighted with this new distribution deal in Canada.

“Having achieved a tremendous response to initial trials, we expect to build sales to more than £200k a year and develop a loyal clientele across the region. Ten Acre is now sold in more than 45 countries across the world.”

PM Theresa May said of the deal: “It’s great news that Ten Acre have won this deal to supply their unique products throughout Western Canada.

“We know there’s a strong global demand for high-quality food and drink from the UK and I want to see more firms building links in lucrative markets such as Canada and the United States.”
