GRAND GESTURE FOR GLASGOW PRIMARY SCHOOL
A Glasgow primary school is set to develop a new play area after receiving a grand donation from a West Scotland housebuilder.
Caledonia Primary School Parent Council has been awarded £1,000 as part of the Persimmon Homes West Scotland Community Champions scheme.
The national match-funding initiative seeks to support groups and charities working to improve the quality of life or environment for local people.
Caledonia Primary School will use the windfall to help create a safe play area for its pupils.
Sharon Hammack, vice-secretary, said: “We are thrilled to receive such generous funding from Persimmon Homes West Scotland, this will most definitely help go towards us in developing the meadow area into a safe area for our children to play.
“We have a number of children at the school who are on the Autism Spectrum, and who require a calming environment, something of which is not possible with our current playground. The development of the meadow area will provide a positive impact on the lives of our pupils with Autism.
“We want to offer the children the opportunity to enjoy more outdoor experiences all year round.”
Doug Law, managing director at Persimmon Homes West Scotland, said: “This month we are proud to be supporting Caledonia Primary School with their fundraising efforts.
“We hope the new meadow area will be enjoyed by generations of pupils to come.
“As always it was a difficult decision to select our Community Champions but I would encourage any charity or organisation that missed out this time, even if they have won previously, to apply again.”
Community groups, charities and good causes across the county have benefitted thanks to the donations from Persimmon Homes. Organisations can apply for funding by completing a simple online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity
The scheme invites local groups and charities to bid for cash from a £750,000 national fund, with two donations of up to £1,000 being made locally each month.
Persimmon Homes West Scotland is currently working in Kilmarnock building a range of four and five bedroom homes at a development named Strathlea. Prices start from £214,995.
