Heathrow is launching a food and drink pre-order service via its app

Heathrow Airport has partnered with US Grab launching a food and drink pre-order service hosted within the company’s app.

The service trial launched with at least one restaurant per terminal, and a vision to extend to all restaurant providers across the area in future months. The app allows customers to pre-order, check turnaround time and collect it from a specific collection point on arrival.

Grab currently serves 20 airports in the US. Heathrow is the first company to do this service in the UK, while TRG Concessions is the first to trial the service along with the likes of Giraffe, Wondertree and The Curator all offering pre-order dishes.

Heathrow’s head of food and beverage, Ben Crowley, commented: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Grab to offer a new, innovative service to Heathrow passengers. This enhances the takeaway offer our restaurants provide and allows passengers to enjoy the range of dining options at 30k feet.

“This is the latest move in our service proposition as we continue to put passenger experience at the heart of our airport operations.”

When passengers download the Heathrow Airport Guide app, they can customise their order and pay before collecting within the turnaround time ahead of their flight.

During the initial trial, Grab is to communicate the launch to its existing US customers travelling to Heathrow, giving them the option to use the service using the Grab app.

Jeff Livney, chief executive officer at Grab, also said: “We are excited to partner with London Heathrow Airport and its award-winning food and beverage programme with our expansion into the UK.

“We share Heathrow’s commitment to ‘making every journey better’ and look forward to providing a seamless takeaway experience for busy Heathrow travellers on the go.”
