Maker of UK’s first ever vandal-resistant bus shelter creates jobs in Congleton

A manufacturer of bus and cycle shelters has created jobs with a new base in Cheshire.

Autocross Euroshel signed up for 5,000 sq ft of industrial space off Back Lane in Congleton, transferring three employees from its previous premises in Lancashire and taking on five new staff.

The company was founded as a family business in 1973. Going on to create the UK’s first vandal-resistant shelter in the ’80s, it has since evolved into a modern manufacturer of modular stainless shelters and street furniture.

Autocross Euroshel exports products as far afield as Nigeria and provided shelters used in the London 2012 Olympics.

Managing director Will Cross said: “The relocation will enable the business to develop new customer opportunities, new ventures and new partnerships.

“The infrastructure in Cheshire East enables easy access throughout the UK for our installation teams and the area provides a great quality of life for our staff.”

Cheshire East Council’s arms-length Skills and Growth Company supported the firm in relocating to the borough.

Congleton MP Fiona Bruce said “I really enjoyed visiting Autocross Euroshel in Congleton and seeing the high-quality products they manufacture and to meet several of the employees, who clearly enjoy working for such a flourishing company.

“I congratulate Will Cross and his wife Julie on developing such an exciting business, which I know, from my own background, will have taken real hard work over many years.”

The chairman of the Skills and Growth Company, Cllr George Hayes, said: “I am delighted that Euroshel has relocated to Congleton.
