Major construction conference being held in the West Midlands

A Midlands construction and engineering conference will feature leading national figures from the industry.

Wright Hassall’s Construction Conference takes place at the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull on Friday, October 13 from 9.30am to 4pm, and will focus on key developments across the sector.

The event attracts industry figures from across the UK and is supported by Moore Stephens, the top ten accountancy firm.

An expert panel of speakers includes Steve Williams, Partner at Moore Stephens, who will be discussing risk management in the industry from a financial perspective, and Sandeep Shingadia, Head of Programme Development at the West Midlands Combined Authority, who will cover transport oriented development.

The speakers also include HORIBA MIRA’s Terry Spall, who will talk about how the MIRA Technology Park is gearing up for the next automotive revolution, and Environmental Services Group UK’s Robert Millar, who will provide insight on working with HS2.

Andy Flowerday, Executive Director of Barhale, will discuss techniques, risks and solutions for road and rail tunnelling, with an emphasis on the Crossrail and Midlands Metro Alliance projects. Imtech’s Dean McArdle will focus on delivering the mechanical and electrical technical systems at the new Collaborative Teaching Laboratory at the University of Birmingham.

Philip Harris, Partner in the Construction team at Wright Hassall, said: “The Construction Conference brings together major players from across the industry to discuss a range of topics of interest to industry professionals.

“We’ve secured an excellent line up of speakers and we look forward to holding an informative and engaging session.”

Paul Fenner, Head of Real Estate and Construction at Moore Stephens, added: “Our recent Owner Managed Business survey revealed that a lot of construction businesses felt that growth has been slower than expected in the last year.

“Most businesses in the sector, however, see plenty of opportunities to bid for new projects and expand. The conference will be a good opportunity to hear from firms across the industry on the challenges they are facing.”
