MEI Brakes doubles premises size at former steelworks site in Sheffield
MEI Brakes, the Sheffield-based distributor of the MEI brand of commercial vehicle products, has doubled the size of its premises at 58 Newhall, the former steelworks site.
The expansion of the MEI premises is part of an 14 month, 12-acre regeneration project that sees the company take immediate occupancy of a bespoke 20,000 sq ft warehouse facility, and an additional 5,000 sq ft office suite which was constructed while MEI remained in occupation of the existing premises throughout.
Marketed by property consultancy Commercial Property Partners LLP (CPP), 58 Newhall is located in the centre of Sheffield’s Lower Don Valley region.
Established in 1998, MEI Brakes currently employs a team of 14 and supply parts to more than 60 countries worldwide.
Adam Jones of Strawsons Property, said: “58 Newhall is a prestigious redevelopment which offers high quality floorspace in an area that has excellent links to the city and the motorway network, and is known for its excellence in manufacturing, engineering and innovation.
“We have been able to tailor the regeneration project with MEI in mind from the outset, and we are delighted that we have been able to accommodate another very successful local business at 58 Newhall.
“We now look forward to securing occupiers on the last remaining unit as we head towards completion of Phase 1 before finalising plans for the next phase of the development which includes a 150,000 sq ft distribution facility.”
Richard Stacey, spokesperson from MEI Brakes, commented: “The expansion and regeneration project that Strawsons Property have carried out has allowed us to extend our existing agreement at 58 Newhall, preventing the disruption of our operations and inconveniencing our staff, whilst also allowing us to grow with the current demand.
“The premises have been fitted out entirely based on our needs, affording us the space needed to meet the requirements of our customers from across the continent and further afield.”
Ed Norris, partner at CPP, added: “Newhall Business Park is a prestigious facility which offers its tenants’ easy access to fantastic public transport links, the M1 and Sheffield City Centre; and as world-wide auto parts manufacturer, MEI Brakes continues to be ideally located to service the needs of its customers.
“Furthermore, the expansion of MEI Brakes facilities has been fitted out with its needs directly in mind, with the ideal space and layout to house the company’s growing team as well as its extensive product range.”
