MBNA proud to support the Chester Marathon

Leading Chester based credit card provider, MBNA, will once again be supporting the Chester Marathon, taking place 8 October 2017.

MBNA has supported the race since it was first run in 2010. This year is expected to be the biggest ever, with more than 5,500 runners taking part.

In further support of this year’s race, 17 runners from MBNA are limbering up to take on the challenge on behalf of charities including The British Heart Foundation, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and Help for Heroes.

In 2016, over 4,000 participants raised over half a million pounds for charities close to their hearts. The event, which now also includes a metric marathon (26.2km) and a children’s race, is also a major fundraising event for the city.

The event is now in its seventh year and is a regular fixture for many marathon runners, thanks to its fast course and scenic surroundings. With more runners than ever before, this year’s event is expected to raise in excess of £600,000.

Elyn Corfield, Managing Director of MBNA said: “We are extremely proud to have supported the race since its inception in 2010. It is a fantastic showcase for our picturesque and historic city as well as a great example of our community coming together. We’re really looking forward to this year’s event and wish all of the runners, the very best of luck.”

Chris Hulse, joint race organiser of Active Leisure Events said: “These guys are very brave for taking on this attempt and we really hope they manage it”

He goes on to say “We are delighted to see such strong support from our title sponsor MBNA. Their continued support has been invaluable to the development and success of the race.”

Over the last six years, the 26.2-mile event attendance has grown, now attracting competitors from across the world to challenge themselves through the picturesque streets of the ancient Roman city and the surrounding Cheshire countryside. In 2012, it was voted the UK’s number one marathon.
