Up to two-thirds of the jobs at BAE’s Warton plant could be on the line

Over 1000 job cuts expected as BAE slows Typhoon production

Manufacturing giant BAE Systems is set to axe over 1,000 jobs this week, according to reports.

The defence contractor is preparing to announce redundancies across its UK workforce with many expected at its operation near Preston, Sky News revealed this morning (October 9).

It is believed that as many as two-thirds of the jobs at BAE’s plant in Warton, Lancashire, are on the line.

The company currently employs 34,600 people in the UK.

According to Sky News, the latest round of cuts relates to an ongoing slowdown in the production of BAE’s Eurofighter Typhoon, and uncertainty surrounding the timing of a recent order of 24 of the aircraft from Saudi Arabia.

The redundancies are likely to be made public on Tuesday (October 10).
