Ken Skates AM, Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Infrastructure welcomes the opening of a new facility dedicated to Ipsen Wrexham
Ipsen, a major employer and pharmaceutical manufacturer in North Wales, was pleased to host Economy and Infrastructure Secretary, Ken Skates, to view its new state-of-the-art neuroscience development facility, at its manufacturing site in Wrexham.
This site produces one of Ipsen’s key strategic products Dysport®, which is approved in 80 countries and in several therapeutic indications such as cerebral palsy, spasticity and cervical dystonia.
Its latest investment marks the first stage of an accelerated expansion programme in Wrexham, which will support its ongoing growth and future development of next generation neurotherapeutics.
Welcomed to the new facility by Aidan Murphy, Senior Vice-President for Biologics Development and Manufacturing, Ken Skates said: “I was delighted to visit Ipsen’s site in Wrexham and see their impressive and exciting new neuroscience facility first hand.
“Ipsen is a significant employer here in Wrexham providing around 375 skilled jobs in the area. We have already supported the company’s work to invest in the skills of its workforce and will continue to work with them to explore opportunities that could further boost their business, the North Wales economy and the Life Sciences Sector in Wales more generally.”
Mr Murphy said: “Ipsen’s multimillion-pound investment in this facility demonstrates Ipsen’s continued commitment to the Wrexham site.
We have exciting times ahead as further transformation takes place, establishing ourselves as a true world-class campus and centre of excellence for neurotherapeutics.
We are very pleased to welcome Mr Ken Skates as it acknowledges Ipsen’s growing presence and footprint in the UK.“
