£5m Ford contract set to create new jobs for Redcar automotive manufacturer
Redcar-based car parts manufacturer ElringKlinger (GB) has won a £5m contract to produce components for motoring giant Ford’s latest engines.
The business, which already employs 300 people in the region, revealed that the contract - worth approximately £5m - will create up to 20 new vacancies for machine operators, while more could follow..
Having worked with Ford for over 30 years, the company has invested almost £1.5m into its latest project that will commence next year and continue over six years.
The project will involve ElringKlinger (GB) manufacturing and supplying Catalyst and Exhaust Heat Shields for new Ford engines, which has meant investing in specialist equipment including FORD Fox Hexagon Rivnut Machine and FORD 400ton Automatic Press with Kula Robots.
The firm is experiencing a period of growth which saw product sales total £21m in 2016, with this figure on course to increase by 50 percent in 2017 thanks to existing contracts with some of the biggest names in the industry alongside Ford, such as Jaguar Land Rover.
ElringKlinger (GB) managing director, Ian Malcolm, said: “We have worked with Ford for many years and have a strong working relationship with the team.
“This project is a great opportunity for the profile of both ElringKlinger (GB) and the wider North East, and will certainly see an exciting six years ahead once it comes into fruition in 2018.
“There has been significant investment in the plant to help us develop and manufacture components now in demand, whilst staying ahead of the competition.
“With new equipment comes the requirement for ongoing support and training for our workforce, which is at the heart of our operation to ensure we meet the high standards set and retain our reputation in the industry.”
