Delifonseca Dockside makes a beeline for National Honey Week

Award-winning eatery and deli Delifonseca Dockside is paying homage to National Honey Week (October 23 - 29), offering an exclusive range of Liverpool postcode produce for customers to get their hands on.

The foodie mecca is renowned across Merseyside for its use of quality ingredients and in line with this, the shelves of the venue are fully stocked with an array of honey based products from Liverpool bee keeper and supplier, Beeshack.

As part of the sweet celebrations, customers were treated to a tasting session with Beeshack’s Martin Swift, with the opportunity to discuss everything from the honey harvesting process to the different flavours and varieties on the market whilst getting up close and personal with an observation hive before the bees were put to bed for the winter.

Proprietor Candice Fonseca said: “Consumers have become increasingly aware of both what a delicious source of natural sweetness honey is and how different blossoms create distinctly different flavoured honeys. The reactions when customers taste the contrast between honey from postcodes L34 vs L9 or L30 vs L26, which apparently gains some of its characteristics from the large amounts of Himalayan balsam in that locality, are brilliant to see. People are increasingly aware of just how important bees are to the natural eco-system so eating honey made within their local postcode is not just delicious but also great for their local environment, their own back gardens and parks.

“Honey is also a versatile ingredient and often features in both our sweet and savoury dishes. After witnessing the customer interest in Martin and his observation hive, our talented team of chefs were inspired to create a special four-course ’Honey Night’ menu that we will be hosting on January 19. On the evening, Martin Swift and Delifonseca Head Chef Martin Cooper will be available to discuss all things honey related. Making for an ideal Christmas gift for foodie friends, the event promises to be a spectacular showcase and until you have tasted truffled honey with the right cheese, you haven’t lived!“

Delifonseca Dockside stocks a variety of honey all year round but exclusively for National Honey Week, customers can expect a wide range with gift packs of large honey combs in supporting stands from all over Liverpool with the venue offering 20% discount to purchases of two or more Beeshack products.

Candice added: “Like Delifonseca, Martin is very passionate about what he does, turning a hobby into a business, which now boasts over six million honey bees. With Beeshack having hives all over Liverpool, located everywhere from gardens to residential rooftops, there is no better person to go to for our exceptionally tasty and ethical honey.“
