Bakery Supports the Royal British Legion with Poppy Cakes

A family bakery of 100 years is to create specially decorated cupcakes to raise money for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.

Stacey’s Bakery, which has shops in Ilkeston, Heanor and Eastwood, has created the special cakes in dedication to the charity which raises funds for the armed forces through its annual Poppy Appeal.

All proceeds from the cakes, which will be a £1 suggested donation, will be presented to the Ilkeston branch of the RBL.

Owner, David Stacey, said: “When it came to choosing a charity we thought it would be a great idea to create a new cake that people can enjoy while raising money for a good cause at the same time.

“We will be selling the cupcakes in all four of our shops in the two weeks leading up to Remembrance Sunday. We hope all of our customers will enjoy them and put their hands in their pockets for the Royal British Legion.”

Every year Stacey’s Bakery chooses a charity to raise funds for. Last year it made green cakes for the NSPCC.

The Stacey’s Bakery shops are situated on Bath Street and South Street in Ilkeston, Market Street in Heanor and Nottingham Road in Eastwood.

The Poppy Appeal launches on October 26. Remembrance Sunday is due to take place on Sunday November 12, when the Cenotaph Service takes places at Whitehall in London.

The Royal British Legion is a registered charity providing lifelong support for the Armed Forces community - serving men and women, veterans and their families.
