New jobs created as Inner Space Stations lands self-storage facility in York

York-based Inner Space Stations has recently launched a brand new Self-Storage facility on Layerthorpe.

The facility, which offers secure storage with 24 hour access, has created an additional five new jobs for the company.

Inner Space Stations Self-Storage opened in August following a £1.3m investment by founder Graham Kennedy.

The building, which used to be the site of National Windscreens, has three floors with over 200 internal storage units ranging from 10 to 200 sq ft.

On the top floor there is a 4,000 sq ft open space which is ideal for large storage or available to hire for exhibitions or events. The facility is only accessible with a secure pin code via two glass door security zones.

The Inner Space Stations business was started by Graham Kennedy 30 years ago. Over the years, the business’ brand has developed around his fascination with space and sci-fi.

Daleks and Stormtroopers guard the entrance and the space theme extends to the storage units, with each unit size named after a different planet in the solar system.

Graham Kennedy, founder of Inner Space Stations, said: “Having dipped our toe into the ‘storage’ market a few years ago with external storage containers, we feel we have identified a gap in the market.

“Making Self-Storage accessible 24 hours a day gives people the flexibility to access it at any time to suit them, especially as we’re in a great location just 5 minutes’ walk from York city centre.

“The facility has already proven popular with students and local market traders over the holidays. We strongly believe internet sellers would benefit from the flexibility we offer, as well as local businesses, house movers and anyone that simply has too much stuff and nowhere to put it!”

Katie Elliott, business development manager, commented: “We’ve created a comfortable environment with carpeted floors and well-lit corridors.

“This is unusual in Self-Storage, however we recognise how important it is that customers feel safe and comfortable when they access their storage units. We want people to feel as though they are walking down a hotel corridor to their personal room.”

Inner Space Stations includes the garage on Hull Road, car wash centres, car parking, property investments, unmanned container storage sites and the new Self-Storage facility.
