Husband and wife team open upsized Catalunyan restaurant and deli in Liverpool

Family-owned Catalunyan eatery Lunya has opened its new 5,500 sq ft restaurant in Liverpool ONE.

Located on the corner of College Lane and Hanover Street, the larger venue represents a £200k investment from the founders of the restaurant and deli, Elaine and Peter Kinsella.

The move enabled Lunya to expand its shop front and combine its dining area, bar and deli into a single open-plan space designed by Liverpool’s DifferentStudio.

The interiors feature a 20-foot mural that spans both floors and joins a 140 sq ft map of Spain, highlighting the locations of the restaurant’s key suppliers and giving the stories of the people and land behind the produce.

The company’s new, larger deli stocks a wider range of artisan produce, while the bigger bar stocks what Lunya said is the largest range of Spanish beers available in the UK.

Lunya’s Peter Kinsella commented: “We’re absolutely delighted with our new site at Liverpool ONE, it looks stunning and we have received fabulous feedback from our many regulars who have been in to visit us already.

“With the increased prominence and visibility of the site, we have immediately seen an enormous increase in walk-in trade. We are delighted to have a fully accessible, totally ground floor operation, ensuring that Lunya is open to everyone.”

Liverpool ONE is run by investment giant Grosvenor Europe.

Alison Clegg, Grosvenor’s director of asset management, said of the launch: “It is fantastic to see Lunya go from strength to strength.

“We are delighted to have been able to facilitate this upsize and realise their full potential as a brand.”

She continued: “This is a prime site at the heart of Liverpool ONE, in close proximity to a range of hotels and located on a thoroughfare that runs to both of the cities train stations. We are sure they will continue to thrive here and further build upon their successful dining experience.”

Lunya dealt direct in the transaction, while Metis Real Estate and Cushman & Wakefield acted for Liverpool ONE.
