Regeneration work at Filwood Park well underway

Progress on regeneration work at Filwood Park in Bristol has reached an early milestone with construction work of new homes due to start on site shortly.

Representatives from developer Barratt Homes, the Homes and Communities Agency, soon to become Homes England and Paul Smith, Bristol City Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing visited the site to see progress.

A total of 150 new homes are being built on the site which is owned by the HCA. It was formerly the site of support building for the old Bristol (Whitchurch) Airport and an area of open land, with construction work by Barratt Homes due to start soon and the first homes due to be released for sale early next year.

Simon Gilbert, development director of Barratt Homes said the site is extremely important to the housebuilder, supporting more than 450 jobs during the construction and sales phases and providing much needed new homes for the area.

“The visit was a good opportunity for all parties to see progress of the remediation works ahead of the housebuilding starting,’’ said Simon “As a five star housebuilder we have an established history of delivering high quality homes and we look forward to producing a scheme here in Bristol which will appeal to local buyers and those relocating to the area.”

Adam Frontczak from the HCA said, “As owner of the land at Filwood Park, the work the HCA has done to enable regeneration on this site is a great example of our vital role in boosting housebuilding in Bristol.

“The ambitious vision for this site is now becoming a reality and we look forward to seeing the new homes and community taking shape.”

Paul Smith said, “I am really pleased to see a such high quality development coming to this part of south Bristol. These homes will meet an important local need.”

The new development is set to transform this area of Bristol and current work includes creating access roads.

In addition to the homes, five star developer Barratt Homes will be creating parkland at the heart of Filwood Park with plenty of room for the children’s play area and paths for walkers and runners.

There will also be a focus on ecology with new native trees planted for shelter and wildlife and marginal planting and meadow grass to create habitats for insects.

Homes on the development will be built to Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes with bespoke urban designs to create a landmark development and a crescent of homes overlooking the park a key feature.
