Former Premier League Chair Anthony Fry To Join Wessex Archaeology As New Chair
Leading UK heritage and archaeology practice Wessex Archaeology has appointed Anthony Fry as its new Chair.
Anthony Fry has more than thirty years’ experience in senior positions at NM Rothschild and CSFB, advising companies and Governments both in the UK and internationally. Since 1990, his career has included Non-Executive Directorships with Southern Water, Pathé Pictures, Mowlem, British Standards Institution, Control Risk and the BBC Trust (of which he was Chair of Finance). The Wessex Archaeology Chair is his first significant role since he stepped down as Chair of the Premier League, Dairy Crest and CALA as a result of a serious illness in 2014.
Chris Brayne, Chief Executive of Wessex Archaeology said:
“We are delighted to welcome such an experienced and knowledgeable business leader to our organisation and we are excited by the potential he brings to develop our team and our services. We conducted a thorough search to identify the most suitable person to become the next Chair and were pleased to have a very strong field of potential candidates. Anthony has an impressive track record as a senior executive and Chair and has a remarkable breadth of experience in both the commercial and not-for-profit sectors. His enthusiasm for history and archaeology and his innate appreciation of our values makes him an excellent fit with our organisation.”
Anthony Fry commented,
“I have been so impressed by what Genie has done as Chair. She has turned Wessex Archaeology around over some difficult years and I want to thank her for everything she has achieved. I am looking forward to taking up this new role. It is a great opportunity to grow and develop this outstanding and committed organisation and I hope that, in many and interesting ways, I can make a difference. My vision is that together with our board, the Chief Executive Chris Brayne and the senior team, and all those who work and partner with us, this can become a real friendship. This is the start of an exciting new phase for Wessex Archaeology.”
Current Chair, Genie Turton CB said,
“I have really enjoyed my years at Wessex Archaeology. What makes Wessex a great place to work is its people, their knowledge, enthusiasm, honesty, generosity and their commitment to quality and excellence. We have all learnt a great deal over the last few years and it has been a great journey. I have nothing but admiration for, and gratitude to all my fellow travellers - the other non-executives, Chris Brayne and his team and all those who work and partner with us. I am so pleased that we have found a new Chair who shares our values and who brings immensely valuable new experience to take us through the next chapter of Wessex’s history.”
