£500k HQ refurbishment to pave the way for new hires at Durham law firm

Durham law firm Swinburne Maddison has landed £500k worth of funding to transform its 10,000 sq ft at Aykley Heads HQ into a renovated modern hub

The firm, which took on sole occupation of the building earlier this year, is working with local contractor AMH Workspace to complete the refurbishment.

Expected to be completed by the end of January, AMH says the remodel will create ‘vibrant open plan office spaces, a relaxing staff and client lounge, serviced meeting rooms, and a redesigned reception area’.

The development is also intended to underpin Swinburne Maddison’s ongoing recruitment campaign. The firm currently has plans to appoint a further four qualified lawyers and an additional two trainees in the early part of next year.

Speaking about this latest phase of investment, Jonathan Moreland, partner and head of the dispute resolution team, said: “Until now, whilst extremely functional, our offices perhaps didn’t reflect the firm that we have become and the quality of work that we handle, which is why we have decided to undertake a complete refurbishment and modernisation of the building, to create contemporary offices and a stylish environment for the benefit of both staff and clients.

“We work across a wide range of businesses from PLCs to owner-managed SMEs, including start-ups, private individuals and third sector organisations - not only in the region, but nationally and internationally too – so our office space has to be suitable for all those that visit us.

“I believe this significant investment recognises our commitment to remain in Durham and will also assist us in continuing to attract enthusiastic lawyers who share our drive and ambition to provide clients with creative and commercially driven solutions from this part of the region.”
