Infrastructure boost at Airport City with completion of £15m link road
Work on the new £15m Enterprise Way link road at Airport City Manchester is now complete.
Construction of the route began in March this year and was delivered by main contractor Beijing Construction Engineering Group International (BCEGI), a JV partner of the Airport City development.
The new link road, adjacent to Manchester Airport, is part of the infrastructure that will connect the £1bn scheme’s new development plots with the rest of the site and wider transport network.
As one of the biggest business hubs currently in development in the UK, Airport City has already helped to create as many as 3,000 new jobs. To date, 821,000 sq ft of space has been developed on site.
The scheme is forecast to benefit the economy of the North further by generating up to 16k jobs in the next 10 to 15 years.
Earlier this year, a joint venture between property firms Stoford and TPG snapped up 45 acres of land at the development’s Global Logistics site.
BCEGI lead director Dongwen Yu said: “I am pleased we have delivered the building of Enterprise Way on time and on budget.
“It is a very important milestone as we work with our partners to unlock the full potential of Airport City.”
Simon Eastwood, managing director at Airport City JV partner Carillion Developments, commented: “It’s been a really important year at Airport City Manchester, which has included the delivery of our first buildings, major infrastructure and a significant 45-acre land sale at Global Logistics, which has set the pace for what will be delivered in future.
“The opening of Enterprise Way highlights the scale and opportunity across this unique site and brings the range of development opportunities to life.”
