An edtech firm connecting students secures €250k seed investment
A collaborative educational tech marketplace, Workkola, which connects students looking for experiential learning and job opportunities with startups seeking talent or support, has closed a €250k seed capital round.
The company worked with Startupbootcamp, several business angels, as well as Spanish and Estonian funds.
Since ‘graduating’ from the Startupbootcamp Data and IoT program in Barcelona in 2017, Workkola has gone on to scale its online community where more than 15,000 students and startups now collaborate on a daily basis.
Álvaro Mancilla, CEO and co-founder of Workkola, explained: “Here at Workkola we want to change the way talent gets access to work, and work gets access to talent.
“We’re committed to replacing the old-fashioned resumé with a methodology based on gathering metrics and data on the hard and soft skills of each candidate.
“Turning intangible aspects such as attitude, personality, communicative skills or leadership capacity into data is the core of this new methodology that we call ‘Talent-Branding’.”
With the new funding in place, Workkola should be able to design a model which merges its company with different education and recruiting applications.
Richard Lagrand, program director at Startupbootcamp Data & IoT program in Barcelona, commented: “Trying to achieve a lot in only three months requires a lot, and a lot of hard work.
“This is only possible with an exceptional amount of motivation to work day and night, trying to reach goals and hitting metrics sustaining week over week growth… We’re very proud of the team’s ongoing success.”
