Experienced chef joins family led team at Colmans

A North East chef who has worked in Michelin star restaurants in London and the region has joined a top seafood restaurant on Tyneside.

Kerry Boreham, 45, has joined Colmans Seafood Temple in her home town of South Shields as executive chef. Kerry will work with a 40-strong team at the chic seafood restaurant, which opened in spring 2017.

She joins the family business from South Tyneside College where she had been head of catering for almost 16 years. Prior to that she worked alongside renowned chefs like Raymond Blanc and Paul Heathcote and for three years worked in the Michelin starred 21 Queen Street, Newcastle under Terry Laybourne. She also enjoyed a short spell at London’s famous La Gavroche in her early career.

Richard Ord, owner of Colmans Seafood Temple and the well-established Colmans fish restaurant on Ocean Road, said: “Kerry brings a wealth of experience to our team. She understands seafood and is completely in tune with our ethos of only working with the best regional and seasonal produce.

“She will support our existing team of cooks and share her knowledge and experience with the team to shape our menus and daily specials going forwards.”

Kerry added: “I’m delighted to be working at Colmans. I would not have gone anywhere else in South Shields to work. This is a beautiful restaurant, location and opportunity for me.

“What I particularly like about Colmans is that it is so family oriented and an environment that is very supportive, which are important to me.”

Colmans Seafood Temple specialises in local seafood and coastal cuisine. The beach front location comprises a stylish restaurant with panoramic coastal views, a glitzy cocktail and oyster bar, along with a fish and chip seafood takeaway.
