Mech-Tool Engineering Appoints New Managing Director

The North East’s leading product manufacturer and global supplier of fire, blast and heat hazard solutions has appointed a new Managing Director to drive the business forward following the implementation of a programme to strengthen the senior management team.

Anthony G Jones steps into the role at the Darlington based company – Mech-Tool Engineering Limited (MTE) - having been with the firm since 2015. Anthony joined Mech-Tool as Business Development Director for Fire and Blast. In 2017 he was promoted to Divisional Director for Modular Solutions and has been instrumental in improving business operations, project delivery and securing additional business for MTE. Anthony will now be responsible for leading the UK business and its Korean subsidiary.

Anthony has a very strong commercial and operational background with over 28 years’ experience in manufacturing and engineering. He has considerable experience in the Oil and Gas, Process and Energy Sectors and has held executive director and senior management roles for a number of Europe’s leading engineering companies, undertaking major projects and business throughout the UK, Norway, South Korea, Kazakhstan, India, SE Asia and the Middle East.

Speaking about the appointment, Marshall Garner, CEO at Mech-Tool said: “As a business we are constantly looking to improve our internal capabilities and streamline our operations to enhance our service delivery and client experience. In order to facilitate this during the recent turbulent market conditions it was essential for the company to strengthen its senior management team through a programme of external appointments and internal promotion. Due to the recovery in the oil price and the substantial reductions in the capital costs of new offshore oil and gas and wind farm projects there are now clear signs of a future recovery in these important markets for Mech-Tool.

“The company is fortunate to have a solid pipeline for the next 12 months. I am extremely confident that Anthony is the right person to drive the Mech-Tool business forward and to take full advantage of the opportunities that will come with a recovery in market conditions.”

The company has recently announced it has secured two further contracts – awarded by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) and Wood Group Mustang on one of the world’s largest oil and gas production projects, TengizChevrOil Future Growth Project - Wellhead Pressure Management Project (FGP-WPMP). This comes on the back of the current progress on the company’s largest value contract to date to supply complete turnkey modular solutions for Remote Instrument Enclosures (RIE’s), on the TengizChevrOil project.

Anthony has a proven track record in business growth and development, change management and process improvement. These experiences and expertise will serve the company well in the month ahead.

Established in 1969, MTE has UK offices and manufacturing facilities in Darlington and Middleborough, Aberdeen and global offices in, Houston, UAE, Malaysia and India and fabrication facilities (MTK) in South Korea. The company has four distinct business units; Design Consultancy, Fire and Blast, Modular Solutions and HVAC solutions – working from initial design and consultation right through to manufacture of turnkey solutions and assistance with on-site installation. It boasts an impressive client portfolio working with some of the leading oil and Gas, Process and Renewable Energy Operators, Engineering Houses and Construction yards globally.
