Road Safety Week 2017 - Safer walk to school for Swindon pupils thanks to support from local housebuilder

As Road Safety Week gets underway next week (Nov 20 to 26) a Swindon housebuilder is ensuring local children are safe walking to and from school.

David Wilson Homes, which is bringing new homes to the town through its Park View @ Tadpole Garden Village development, has donated hi vis jackets to pupils at Tadpole Farm CE Primary Academy to ensure they’re seen during the dark winter months.

The donation comes as Road Safety Week puts a focus on keeping pedestrians and drivers safe and forms part of David Wilson Homes’ commitment to supporting the areas it works in.

Sales adviser Gill Winter took time out from working on the new community to visit Tadpole Farm CE Primary Academy last week and hand over the reflective garments to reception pupils.

“We know how important it is to encourage youngsters to get out and about - and the health benefits of walking to school are undisputed,” said David Wilson Homes sales director, Louise Ware. “However, parents are understandably worried about safety, particularly in the winter months when it can be difficult for drivers to spot people crossing the road in the dark.

“It’s our pleasure to help by donating hi vis jackets to pupils at Tadpole Farm CE Primary Academy. We know that the jackets, combined with the sound road safety advice given by teachers, will help keep the children safe this winter.”

Jane Leo, Principal at Tadpole Farm CE Primary Academy, added: “One of our most important values is to provide a secure, safe, happy and caring learning environment for all of our pupils. We’re delighted that this donation from David Wilson Homes has helped us to extend that safety element beyond the classroom and ensure our pupils are safe outside of the school gates, as well as inside them.

“We’ll be making good use of the hi vis vests, and using Road Safety Week as an opportunity to remind pupils about the importance of being safe walking to and from school.”
