Maidstone is new regional HQ for expanding planning, environmental and engineering firm

An employee-owned planning, environmental and engineering consultancy has chosen Maidstone for its south east regional headquarters.

And Caulmert has already recruited its first employee to be based at the new office, with Elliott Davies joining the firm from waste management specialists Viridor.

The company is also seeking to recruit five professional consultants in the first phase of staffing for the new premises, in Canada House, St Leonard’s Road.

Founded in 2009, Caulmert is on track to meet an ambitious growth plan that would see it employ 250 people by 2024. Currently, it employs 45 in teams in North Wales, Cheshire and Nottingham.

The choice of the south east as the next region for expansion follows on from a number of new contract wins.

Founder and managing director, Mike Caulfield, said: “We already have clients in the region, including Viridor, Taray Investments, Claridge Architects, Glo Developments, and Essex County Council.

“In addition, we’re getting more and more commissions from local architects and property developers. This region is extremely busy for us at the moment.

“Maidstone is well situated for us to travel easily up to London when needed. Setting up operations here is a key step in our strategic growth plan.

“We’re renting 2,500 sq ft on a five-year lease, and plan to recruit a further five consultants over the next 12 months.

“I’m sure Elliott will be a fantastic addition to the team and a driving force to help us achieve our objectives in the south east.

“To start with, we’re looking to recruit people in digital drafting and modelling, town planning, plus a project manager and structural and civil engineers.”

Caulmert offers a broad spectrum of professional services and has experience of working in commercial, industrial, education, waste, renewable energy, residential, healthcare and infrastructure developments.

Elliott said: “It’s exciting to have joined Caulmert as the company has ambitious plans to grow, which I am keen to play an important role in.

“I’ve worked on projects including landfill sites, commercial buildings and petrol stations. I’m hopeful that my background in design and 3d ground modelling will benefit Caulmert as it looks to make a name for itself in the region.”

The scale of Caulmert’s projects ranges from small inspections to multi-million pound developments for blue chip international clients. Clients include Willmott Dixon, TGI Fridays, Carluccio’s and Airbus.

Caulmert’s expertise in a variety of planning, environmental and engineering projects is supported by the use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) processes and modelling to meet PAS1192 level 2.
